Life Settlement Broker Fees: Flat Fee vs. Percentage Commission
Many traditional life settlement brokers use percentage-based compensation that may equal approximately 20%–30% of settlement proceeds, depending on the broker, transaction and applicable state requirements. Because broker compensation directly affects how much a policyowner keeps from a life settlement, understanding the fee structure is an important part of comparing offers.
Trust Life Settlements takes a different approach. We shop your policy to more than 20 qualified institutional life settlement buyers and providers while charging a published Flat-Fee rather than a percentage of your settlement offer.
Within each applicable tier, the brokerage fee is a predetermined dollar amount rather than a percentage of the settlement offer. The difference stays with you.
No percentage-based broker commission. Just a clearly disclosed Flat-Fee with a maximum cap — transparent and known upfront, always paid from the settlement proceeds at closing.

Why it matters
We Work for You. Not the Market.
Full Buyer Competition
We present your policy to 20+ institutional buyers — the same buyers traditional brokers use. More competition means stronger offers for you.
Lower Cost, Higher Net Proceeds
A percentage-based fee grows with the settlement amount, reducing what you take home. Our flat fee is fixed and disclosed upfront — so when the offer goes up, you keep the difference.
Same Process. Lower Cost.
We perform the same policy review, underwriting coordination, and buyer negotiation as any broker. The difference is we don't take a percentage cut at the end.
No Surprises. Ever.
You'll know your flat fee before signing anything. No percentage buried in the fine print. No shock at closing. What we quote is what we charge.
Our Flat-Fee Model in the News
Our September 30 announcement explains the approach behind our published fee schedule: predetermined flat-fee tiers based on settlement proceeds, competitive policy marketing, and a focus on what policyowners receive after broker compensation.

The Nation's True Flat-Fee Life Settlement Broker
Many companies use the words "flat fee" or "no cost" in their marketing. But a true flat-fee fiduciary broker must meet all of the criteria below. We are the only nationally operating broker that does.
What Do We Mean by a True Flat-Fee Broker?
Trust Life Settlements meets all nine standards.
Why other companies don't qualify
Many companies in the life settlement space use language that sounds like flat-fee pricing. Here's why the common models are not the same.
Percentage-Based Brokers
Traditional brokers represent the policyowner and market the policy to potential buyers, but their compensation may be calculated as a percentage of the settlement offer or another transaction-based amount. When compensation is tied to the offer, the broker’s fee can increase as the offer increases.
Trust Life Settlements does not charge a percentage-based commission. The applicable fee is one of five predetermined fixed-dollar amounts based on the settlement-offer tier. It does not increase as a percentage of the offer and changes only if the offer moves into a different tier.
Providers and Direct Buyers
Life settlement providers are purchasers — not brokers representing the policyowner. They evaluate policies, make purchase offers, assume responsibility for future premiums, and generally receive the death benefit when the insured dies. A provider may charge no brokerage fee because it is acting as the buyer in the transaction.
Policyowners who approach one provider directly may receive that provider’s offer without an independent broker marketing the policy to competing buyers.
“No Out-of-Pocket Fee” and Other Models
“No out-of-pocket fee” does not necessarily mean flat-fee. An intermediary may be compensated from transaction proceeds, through a percentage-based commission, by another participant, or under another disclosed arrangement.
Trust Life Settlements represents the policyowner, uses a predetermined five-tier flat-fee schedule, and discloses its compensation before the client agrees to proceed.
Policyowners should request written disclosure of:
How our fee works — in plain language
When is the fee earned?
Our fee is earned only at closing — after you accept an offer and the transaction completes. The fee is deducted directly from the settlement proceeds, so you never pay anything upfront or out of pocket.
What if my policy doesn't sell?
You owe nothing. If your policy does not receive an acceptable offer or you choose not to proceed, there is no charge whatsoever.
How is the fee deducted?
The flat fee is deducted from the settlement proceeds at closing — you never write a check or pay out of pocket. You receive the settlement amount minus the disclosed fee, which you knew before you committed. No hidden line items, no surprise deductions.
Does the fee change based on the offer?
The settlement offer determines which of our five predetermined Flat-Fee tiers applies. Within a given tier, the fee is a fixed dollar amount — not a percentage. The fee does not increase dollar-for-dollar as the settlement rises; it changes only when the settlement crosses into another predetermined tier.
What if another brokerage is involved?
When another licensed brokerage participates in a transaction, Trust Life Settlements negotiates the arrangement so the policyowner’s total brokerage charge remains within the applicable five-tier Flat-Fee schedule. The participating firms and their compensation are disclosed in writing, and the policyowner is not charged an additional percentage-based commission.
